There's an app for everything now!

If you have an Apple or Android device, you have probably downloaded at leat one app by now.  A few months ago, I bought an Android tablet.  The Google Play store is my new bff (read as I'm a nerd)!  I have fallen in love with the Ancestry app.  You can update your tree, view hints and records and even search!  If you have this app, or want it, it is well worth getting and checking out all the features!

A Texas so big all the states fit inside

Yes I live in Texas, but I wasn't born here.  That's a story for another day.  In this case I'm talking about our local library's genealogy room.  Our's is called "The Texas Room".  I bet you can see where this is going.  This room includes microfilm of census from many states (mostly Texas), books on genealogy from different states and research information.  Most libraries have a genealogy or local history collection.  If you can't find it, ask at the reference desk.  If you live in a small town, or have a small local library, don't be surprised if you have to travel to go to another local library with a genealogy collection.  It can be well worth your time!

Finding someone who is MIA

By now, if you have been working on your family tree for a while, you have someone (or several someones) whom you can't find any records.  One of my mother-in-law's sisters is this person for me, among others.  I have found her in the 1930 and 1940 US census.  Her first name changed from Etta to Etter on the census.  She, along with all her brothers and sisters, were born in Texas.  But I cannot find a birth record for her (the other kids, yes).  I haven't given up yet, the info is out there.  I just need to find it!
